Active Release Techniques®, or “ART”, a technique used at Hemmett Health, is making the news in a big way, and there’s a good reason for that.
The new Super Bowl Champions, the Denver Broncos have a Chiropractor on their sidelines of every game, and have been using A.R.T. with their players for the last 14 seasons.
The A.R.T. founder, Dr. Michael Leahy, developed this technique specifically while working with elite athletes (but don’t worry, that doesn’t mean you have to be an elite athlete, or even an athlete to benefit from it – more on that later) to help injuries resolve more quickly and completely.
The A.R.T protocols he developed to help solve injury issues, are the same A.R.T protocols used at Hemmett Health almost daily.
Let’s see what Dr. Leahy has to say:
“It’s an incredible experience getting to be at the Super Bowl. When you work with a team you’re a part of it, and the players treat you that way. At most games I see 35-40 guys for treatments before the game and anywhere from zero to twelve or so players during the game. Some of the time I’ll watch a player who has a particular issue to see how he is moving, but half the time, I just get to be a fan and watch the game. That night, the defense was unbelievable.
Everything is heightened by the Super Bowl because the stakes and the emotions are so high, but treating a person and keeping them in the game is just amazing. Especially when they’re worried it’s something that can’t be fixed. It can be a puzzle to try to figure it out but when you can get them back to being able to play, it’s just a great feeling.” Dr. Michael Leahy
Although A.R.T is used by professional sports teams, IRONMAN, athletes, and elite athletes, it is also very effective for “weekend warriors”, repetitive strain injuries, and almost every overuse, acute and chronic pain syndrome.
What exactly is A.R.T?
A.R.T. is a patented, state of the art soft tissue system/movement based massage technique that treats problems with muscles, ligaments, tendons, nerves, and fascia. A few of the many conditions that can be treated with A.R.T include headaches, back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, shin splints, shoulder pain, sciatica, plantar fasciitis, knee problems, and tennis. These conditions all have one important thing in common: they are often a result of overused muscles.
Hemmett Health providers are certified in A.R.T., and have helped numerous patients with injury recovery challenges ranging from neck and back pain to foot, knee and hip pain with A.R.T. It is also safe and effective in treating our prenatal and postnatal patients.
Every patient at Hemmett Health is an individual with unique needs and requirements. Most custom active and passive treatment plans include an A.R.T component.
